The future of the Pacific 01 173
By Dieter Brüggemann, translated by Frank W. Arnold
The plan is as previously stated, to overhaul the Pacific and to have an original 01 with complete front end, DB smoke box door, Witte smoke deflectors and small DB lamps just as it ran during the last years of steam traction on DB. The present state, all original, should prevail. Only things like rail intercom and other requirements from the EBA will be added. After being returned to service 01 173 should return least once a year on a run to Berlin to visit the German Technical Museum.
None of the two societies can finance the complete overhaul and the following inspection cost. Therefore an account for donations has been set up at the FDTM. Details can be obtained from the translator of this article.
